    GORHAM, ME – Sophomore reserves Samantha Garcia (Highland, NY) and Hannah Maghini (Bristol, CT) tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively, but it wasn’t enough as the Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball squad fell at Southern Maine, 66-49, on Saturday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in Little East Conference play, while the Huskies improved to 5-5 and 1-2.

    DANBURY, CT - Senior guard Gabrielle Hurlbert (Thomaston, CT) scored a team-high 24 points on 8-of13 shooting from the field, but the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team dropped a 72-60 decision to visiting Eastern Connecticut State University at Feldman Arena in the Little East Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday night.

  • Women's Basketball Rally Falls Short in Wild Second Half Against Rowan at Hunter Tournament, 88-86

    NEW YORK, NY – Three different players netted double figures but it wasn’t enough as the Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball squad’s late rally came up short against non-league opponent Rowan College, 88-86, on Friday night at the Hunter College Tournament. Rookie guard Susana Almeida (Danbury, CT) poured in 21 points to lead the Colonials, while classmate Jasmin Caldwell (Mount Vernon, NY) added a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Senior Gabrielle Hurlbert (Thomaston, CT) also tacked on 14 points.

    HOBOKEN, NJ – Senior guard Genesis Torres (Stratford, CT) tallied a team-high 14 points to go along with a game-high six steals, but it wasn’t enough as the Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball squad fell at non-conference foe Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday night at Canavan Arena. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 1-2 overall while the Ducks improved to 1-0.

    MILTON, MA – After a season opening loss to Wellesley College in Day One of the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament yesterday, the Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball team rebounded with a 76-61 non-league victory at host Curry in the consolation game on Saturday afternoon at Katz Gymnasium. Senior guard Gabrielle Hurlbert (Thomaston, CT) led three Colonials in double figures with 14, while sophomore Hannah Maghini (Bristol, CT) and rookie Lola Herman (Brooklyn, NY) chipped in with 12 and 11, respectively. Hurlbert’s stellar play earned her All-Tournament accolades.

  • Catherine Nathans Cannavan and Melissa Teel To Be Inducted Into LEC Hall Of Fame

    PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) announced the 12 newest members of its Hall of Fame Friday. Each of these outstanding former student-athletes and coaches will be honored on their respective campuses during the 2019-20 academic year.  Two former Western Connecticut State University great will be inducted this year.  Catherine "Cat" Nathans Cannavan (soccer) and Melissa Teel (basketball) are among 12 former student-athletes and coaches to receive this coveted LEC honor.
