NAPLES, FL – Sophomore Annie Rosa (Washington, CT) rang up six hits while bashing a pair of home runs to lead the Western Connecticut State University softball team to a pair of victories on Day Three of their Spring trip on Monday. The Colonials pounded New Jersey City, 12-3, before downing Alfred State, 11-3, extending their win streak to five.
In the opener against NJCU, Rosa went 4-for-4 which included a two-run shot over the center field wall and a pair of doubles en route to driving in four runs. Junior Charline Plasczynski (Bristol, CT) also knocked a three-run shot over the center field wall, while classmate Brittany Stancavage (Bristol, CT) and sophomore Reilly McMahon (South Windsor, CT) each contributed a pair of RBI's for the Colonials.
WestConn rookie righty Alyssa Lionetti (Brookfield, CT) picked up the win, going the distance with six strong innings, striking out five and surrendering two earned runs on four hits.
In Game Two against Alfred State, Rosa continued the hit parade with an RBI double in the first and a solo blast over the left-center wall in the fifth. Juniors Sara Tenke (Glen Cove, NY) and Jenna Houlahan (Yorktown Heights, NY) chipped in with two RBI's a piece. Tenke would also earn the victory on the mound.
"Today we showed just how talented of a team we are capable of being. We are looking forward to our day off tomorrow. We hope to bring some of the sunshine back to CT with us next week," stated WestConn head coach Heather Stone after her squad improved to 5-1 overall.
The Colonials return to action in Fort Myers on Wednesday when they meet Blackburn at 9 a.m. They matchup against Wilmington (OH) at 11 a.m.
