DANBURY, CT - Senior center Fenton Bradley, Jr. (Mansfield, CT) scored a game-high 22 points and three other Western Connecticut State University men's basketball players scored in double figures, but visiting Coast Guard came from behind to defeat the Colonials, 79-73 in the Colonial Classic at Feldman Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Shea Tracy (New Britain, CT), Wes Nelson, Jr. (Queens, NY) and Jaheim Young (Brooklyn, NY) each added 10 points for WestConn, but the host could not prevent the Bears from coming back from a five-point half-time deficit.
The Bears used a 10-2 run to start the second half erasing a 38-33 lead taking a 43-40 lead following back-to-back treys by Jason Frazer (West Haven, CT) with 16:50 left.
The Colonials led 68-66 with 4:30 left before the Bears used a 9-0 run to take a 75-68 lead with 43 seconds left. Coast Guard took the lead for good 70-68 on a pair of free throws by Noah Baldez (Lower Gwynedd, PA) with 3:46 remaining. Baldez would make 9 of 12 free throws in the second half.
Coast Guard shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field and made 15 of 35 from behind the arc in the win. The Colonials were 29 of 62 (46.8 percent) and were 9 of 17 from 3-point range.
WestConn, now 2-1, led 13-7 before the Bears ran off eight straight started on back-to-back 3-pointers by Frazer as the Bears took a 15-13 lead with 11:06 left in the first half.
Frazer led the way for Coast Guard, now 2-2, coming off the bench to score 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor.
Justin Kane (Arnold, MD) and Tyler Perez (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL) contributed 14 points apiece while Baldez added 13 points and dished out a game-high 11 assists for the winners.
Young led all players with 11 rebounds for the hosts.
The Colonials shot 55.6 percent in the opening half (15 of 28) while making five of nine from three-point range and Coast Guard was just 11 of 31 (35.5 percent) from the field while making 7 of 20 from behind the arc in the first half.
WestConn plays host to Elms College on Tuesday, November 19. Game time against the Blazers is set for 7 pm.
The Bears are back in action on Thursday night when they host Mitchell at 6pm.
