NEWBURGH, NY – The Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team opened the 2019-20 slate with a 68-58 victory at non-conference opponent Mount Saint Mary on Monday night at Kaplan Center. Senior forward Fenton Bradley Jr. (Mansfield, CT) paced WestConn with 16 points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Ahmod Privott (Middletown, CT) chipped in with 14 points and eight boards.
The Colonials utilized their size and strength to dominate points in the paint, 34-18, while also holding a commanding edge in the rebound column, 45-24. They converted 14 second chance points as they gathered 16 offensive boards. The visitors also shot a staggering 17-of-19 (89.5%) from the free throw line while the hosts managed just 8-of-13 (61.5%).
Jameson Morton led Mount Saint Mary's with a game-high 20 points on 50% shooting from the field. Kendall Francis added 13 points.
The Colonials maintained the advantage for the majority of the contest as they jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. The gap would grow to as many as 19 midway through the second half.
WestConn returns to action against visiting non-league foe Fisher when they host the two-day Colonial Classic beginning Saturday at 3 p.m.
