DANBURY, CT - Four goals produced a victory for the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team on Wednesday night. The Colonials prevailed over visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 4-0, at Westside Athletic Complex.
Morgan Matthews (Bethel, CT), the all-time leading scorer, tallied a pair of goals against the Corsairs. She opened up the scoring, with an unassisted goal, in the early going with a goal in the eighth minute of play. She would tack on another goal when the result was not in doubt.
Neve Manion (Newington, CT) was unchallenged tonight as the Corsairs triggered just one errant shot on goal in the 60 minutes.
"It was a strong, consistent performance tonight," stated WestConn head coach Dani McDonnell. "We scored on two solid corners tonight, which has to feel good."
Katelyn Banalewicz suffered the loss after being forced to make 10 saves in goal for UMass Dartmouth.
The Colonials, tied for second place, with Keene State College on Little East Conference table, will travel to Castleton University on Saturday. Pass back is scheduled for 4 pm against the Spartans.
