WestConn Stays Atop MASCAC With 62-28 Win Over Westfield State

DANBURY, CT - The Western Connecticut State University football team defeated Westfield State University, 62-28 at the Westside Athletic Complex and remain tied with next week's opponent Framingham State University atop to the Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with identical 4-0 records.

The Colonials, now 6-0 on the season, travel to meet the Rams, which defeated Plymouth State University, 34-0 today, next Saturday, October 26.  Game time is set for 12 noon.

On Saturday night, sophomore wide receiver Will Daniels (Bethel, CT) led all players with eight catches for 131 yards and caught a 13-yard touchdown from senior quarterback David James (Stamford, CT).

James finished with an impressive stat line, completing 16-of-21 passes for 225 yards and a pair of scoring tosses.  He also hooked up with Jahzaari Mullings (Bridgeport, CT), from 20 yards out in the third quarter.

Roy Penn-Consentino (Liberty, NY) led the Colonials ground attack with a game-high 15 carries and 97 yards.

It was sophomore running back Anthony Via who scored three touchdowns on the ground, from one, five and two yards, respectively for the winners.  He finished with eight carries for 47 yards.

Sophomore Ariza Kolloverja (Bristol, CT) came on in the second half to make five catches for 77 yards including a 14-yard reception from back-up signal caller Thomas Walsh (Great River, NY).

Walsh completed 7-of-12 passes for 114 yards and threw two TDs after coming on in relief of James.

WestConn held the ball for nearly three fewer minutes, but finished with a commanding 588-370 advantage in total offensive yards.  It is now 10-2 overall against the Owls, and ended a two-game slide against the visitors, each coming in the final game of the 2017 and 2018 campaign.

For Westfield State, Andrew Peltier (Holyoke, MA) completed 17-of-29 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns.  His tosses were from seven yards to Evan Garvey (Dalton, MA) and 34 yards to Kevin Faughnan (Levittown, NY), in the closing seconds of the third stanza.

Senior running back Shaquille Adjei (Worcester, MA) amassed 67 yards on nine carries and scored on a six-yard run to lead the visitors from the ground.

Defensively, Austin Thornberg (East Haven, CT) led the Colonials with seven tackles and one fumble recovery.  Vincent Scancarello (Monroe, NY) and Logan Danville (Milford, CT) each registered six take downs for the winners.

Westfield's Alijah Ellis (Derby, CT), Joseph Dumoulin (Holyoke, MA) and George Cole (Chelmsford, MA) each had nine tackles to lead all players.

The Owls travel to Fitchburg State University for a 2 pm meeting next Saturday.
