FORT PIERCE, FL – Despite a 3-for-4 showing at the plate from junior outfielder Greg Campbell (Harwinton, CT), the Western Connecticut State University baseball squad wrapped up its spring trip with a 13-4 loss to non-conference opponent Cairn on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 1-10 overall.
WestConn drew first blood when junior Moe Ortiz-Echevarria (Norwalk, CT) walloped a solo home run over the left field wall in the top of the third. However, Cairn would strike back with 13 runs over eight innings.
The Colonials would slice the deficit to 13-4 in the top of the ninth when senior Dante Postorino (Huntington, NY) drove in a pair of runs when he roped a double to left. Moments later, rookie Adam Muzsi (Vernon, CT) singled to left, scoring Postorino.
WestConn gets a brief layoff before their home-opener against non-league foe Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday at 5 p.m.
