DANBURY, CT – Despite match-highs of 13 kills from senior outside hitter Kamari King (East Hartford, CT) and three block assists from classmate middle hitter Mikayla Aubry (Fresno, CA), the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball squad fell to visiting non-conference opponent Trinity College, 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-17) on Tuesday night at the O'Neill Center's Feldman Arena. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 4-5 overall, while the Bantams improved to 4-1.
"I was happy with the way we came out to start the match. But, we let our emotions run too high in the opening set and when we made mistakes in the second and third they really affected us," stated WestConn head coach Don Ferguson following the loss. "Hats off to the Trinity defense. They played extremely well tonight," he added.
Senior outside hitter Rachel Underwood (Danville, CA) paced the Bantams with 13 kills, while sophomore setter Jessica Yang (Pacific Palisades, CA) dished out a match-high 33 assists.
WestConn will look to rebound when they host Plymouth State in their LEC opener on Saturday at Noon. They square off against non-league foe Lehman later in the afternoon.
