Western starts the season with four-game win streak

DANBURY, CT – The Western Connecticut State University volleyball team took a 3-0 victory over Brandeis University in its first match of the day, before being pushed to the limit in a 3-2 win over Rivier College to finish the Western Invitational undefeated and 4-0 on the season as action continued at Feldman Arena on Day Two of the Western Invitational.

In the day's first match, Brandeis bounced back from a defeat at the hands of Rivier College on Friday night to defeat Mount Ida College 3-0.  The Judges swept the match by scores of 25-14, 25-18, and 25-11

In the day's second match, Rivier College cruised to a 3-0 win over Purchase College, taking both the first and second set by 25-17 scores, and closing out the match with a 25-11 win.

In the third match of the day, Western stormed past Brandeis 25-9 in first set of the match, pulled away down the stretch for a 25-18 win in set two, and closed out the win with a 25-12 victory in the third and final set.

In match four, Mount Ida dropped the first set to Purchase Colle 25-22, but then came back to claim the next three sets, 25-18, 25-16, and 25-20, for a 3-1 victory in the match.

In the final match of the Western Invitational, Western  and Rivier College battled through five sets before the match was decided with Western taking a 15-8 victory in the fifth and deciding set.  Western took the first set of the match 25-20, but Rivier answered with a 25-19 win in the second.  Western pulled ahead with a 25-21 win in the third set, but again Rivier answered with a 25-23 win in set four.  By taking the fifth set, Western remained perfect on the season and now stands at 4-0.
