NEW YORK, NY – Juniors Gabriella Orsini (Watertown, CT) and Chelsie Von Elm (Somers, NY) each captured their first career singles victories as the Western Connecticut State University women's tennis squad downed host John Jay College on Tuesday night. With the win, the Colonials improved to 2-11 overall.
As has been the case most of the season, senior captain Carole Allers (Wilton, CT) and junior Emma Chapman (Danbury, CT) got things started with an 8-6 doubles victory before each breezed to wins in their respective singles matches.
Junior Pooja Dudhedia (Brookfield, CT) and Sarah Warkoski (Bristol, CT) provided an added punch, winning their doubles contest, 8-3, while also seizing both of their singles affairs. Dudhedia notched her win in a thrilling three-setter.
"The ladies played their best, most balanced match of the season. It was great to experience. I'm very happy for Gabby and Chelsie in earning their first college singles victory," stated WestConn head coach Shawn Stillman following the action.
Having played four matches in the past five days, the Colonials get a break before they return to action at Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
