DANBURY, CT – Rookie David Lawrence (Newtown, CT) won three events to pace the men, while classmates Hope Johnsky (Bristol, CT) and Molly Henry (Pound Ridge, NY) each notched a pair of first place showings to lead the women as the Western Connecticut State University swimming and diving squads cruised past the visiting College of New Rochelle on Saturday. The men finished ahead, 109-72, while the women also came out on top, 103-81.
"With this being our third meet in four days and the end of the crucial winter training phase, both the men & women stepped up to secure wins. I'm so proud of the work we've put in and the results that we are seeing," said Colonials head coach Jill Cook following the action.
Both the men's and women's units claimed victories in the 200-yd medley relays to begin the slate before Henry touched the wall for the first singles win in the 200-yd free (2:11.02), while Lawrence did the same in the ensuing race, clocking in at 1:54.67.
Freshmen Nicholas Edwards (New Milford, CT) and Luke Forsberg (New Fairfield, CT) would also rack up victories in the 50-yard free and 100-yd backstroke, respectively, for the WestConn men.
On the women's side, Johnsky hit the pad first in the 100-yd breaststroke, and 200-yd IM. Henry's other top spot came in the 100-yd back.
WestConn returns to the pool in a meet hosted by Western New England next Saturday at Noon. St. Joseph (ME) will also be competing.
