NEWTON, MA – Sophomore Osheonna Israel (South Windsor, CT) drilled the lone goal of the game in the 35th minute of play to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout win at non-conference opponent Lasell on Tuesday night at Taylor Field. With the victory, the Colonials extended their winning streak to six games and improved to 8-6 overall, while the Lasers dropped to 7-4.
"We continue to do the little things we need to do in order to win these close games," said WestConn head coach Alex Harrison following the action. "Despite playing well away, we are looking forward to returning home this weekend," he added as the squad wrapped up its five-game road trip with a perfect record.
It was a close matchup in all facets as the hosts led in shots, 10-9, while the teams tied in corner kicks, 2-2, and fouls 8-8.
Reigning Little East Conference Goalkeeper/Rookie of the Week Karly Martin (Bristol, CT) combined with sophomore Alexis Lainchbury (Hopewell Junction, NY) to notch six saves for the Colonials, while Angela Sanzari recorded three for the Lasers.
After Israel tallied her first goal of the season, the visitors had a chance to tack on an insurance goal in the second half when rookie forward Amina Bailey (East Hartford, CT) fired a shot that deflected off the post.
