PROVIDENCE, RI - Junior Allison Oakley (Beekman, NY) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal and the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team remained undefeated following its 3-2 victory over Rhode Island College at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonials improve to 13-0-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the Little East Conference while the Anchorwomen drop to 4-9-1 and 1-3-1, respectively.
At the 30:09 mark, Sorice tallied her 13th goal of the season when she dribbled in all alone and beat RIC keeper Erica Edwards in the bottom left 90.
Three minutes later, Brittany DeGrooth cut the hosts deficit in half when she converted on a penalty kick. It was her sixth marker of the season.
Nearly 13 minutes after the intermission, Oakley took a cross from the left six from Aileen Maloney (Trumbull, CT) and tucked her fourth goal of the season into the lower right-hand corner.
With 7:04 remaining in regulation, DeGrooth scored from 25 yards out. She collected a short pass from Elena Couto and drilled the ball over the head of WestConn net minder Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT).
The Colonials held a distinct advantage in shots on the afternoon, 36-8.
Fernandez finished with a pair of saves while Edwards was forced to make 17 saves for the Anchorwomen.
WestConn is on the road on Wednesday, October 18 when it travels to Farmingdale State. Game time is set for 7 pm with the Rams.
