PURCHASE, NY - Freshman guard Imani Baptiste (Bronx, NY) scored a game-high 20 points and the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team evened its record at 1-1 following a 103-63 victory at Purchase College on Tuesday night.
Baptiste connected on 7-of-11 shots from the field including burying 4-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc. She also collected seven rebound and made a game-high four steals for the Colonials.
Sophomore Frances Snyder (Pine Plains, NY) and senior Jancy Sherwood (Poughquag, NY) joined Baptiste in double digits in the scoring column, as they scored 18 and 12 points, respectively for the winners.
Arta Krasniqi and Amber Jones each scored 16 points and Shadai Plowden netted 13 points for the Panthers, now 0-1 on the young season.
The Colonials raced out to a 10-0 lead in the early going. Snyder capped off the run with a three pointer at the 7:29 mark of the first quarter and the visitors never looked back. She later canned a lay-up with 1:02 left in the first quarter and WestConn's advantage grew to 18 points, 27-9.
WestConn scored at least 23 points in each of the four quarters and opened up the contest in the fourth quarter when it outscored the Panthers, 26-5 and built its biggest lead in the closing seconds of the game.
WestConn travels to Brandeis University and will face Husson University in the first round of the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament on Friday, November 16. Tip-Off is slated for 7 pm.
