SPRINGFIELD, MA – Sophomore Matthew Carino (Sandy Hook, CT) captured a dramatic singles victory, while also teaming up with senior Chauncey Allers (Wilton, CT) for a doubles win but it wasn't enough as the Western Connecticut State University men's tennis squad fell at Springfield College, 7-2, on Friday night.
With the loss, the Colonials fell to 1-7 overall while the Pride improved to 5-7.
After dropping the No. 1 double slot, Allers and Carino captured an 8-1 win the No. 2 spot.
The highlight of the match for WestConn came in the second singles match. After dropping the opening set, 6-4, Carino rallied to seize the second set, 6-0, before earning the match victory with a 10-6 third set tie breaker win over Drew Delorenzo.
WestConn gets right back to work on Saturday when they travel to UMass-Boston on Saturday at 1 p.m.
