Hogan And Allers Capture Singles Wins, But WestConn Fall To UMass Dartmouth, 7-2

DANBURY, CT --  Sophomore Will Hogan (Ridgefield, Conn.) and senior Chauncey Allers (Wilton, Conn.) accounted for the Western Connecticut State University men's tennis points  in its loss 7-2 to visiting University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at Westside Courts on Saturday afternoon.  Both overcame first set deficits in their respective number one and three singles matches to triumph in pro set tiebreakers.

Hogan defeated Eli Brooks 5-7, 7-5 and 10-6 at top-flight singles while Allers defeated Baylen Harper, 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 in the three hole of solos.

WestConn drops to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the Little East Conference.

"All of the doubles matches were very close and could have gone either way. Unfortunately we didn't win any of them and started singles play down 0-3," said WestConn head coach Shawn Stillman.  "We need to be able to close out those tight matches."

Senior Anthony Joseph (Acushnet, Mass.), sophomores Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.) & Sean Nutter(Mattapoisett, Mass.) and freshman Kyle Noseworthy (Dartmouth, Mass.) combined to notch a pair of wins each in singles and doubles action, as UMass Dartmouth posted the victory.

Viale, Joseph, Nutter and Noseworthy all posted straight set triumphs in singles action at the respective number two, four, five and six spots in the lineup for the visiting Corsairs (3-5, 2-0 LEC), who swept the three doubles matches on the day.  Joseph and Viale teamed up for an 8-6 win at the number one position for UMass Dartmouth, which received an 8-4 victory at number two from the sophomore tandem of Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) and Baylen Harper (Leicester, Mass.).  Nutter and Noseworthy completed the visitors' doubles sweep with an 8-4 triumph at the number three spot in the lineup.
