Men and Women's Swim Teams Split at Lehman

BRONX, NY – The WestConn men and women's swimming and diving squads split their matchup at Lehman College on Friday night. Junior Rachel Peet (New Fairfield, CT) paced the women with a pair of first place showings en route to a 119-48 victory. Rookie Luke Forsberg (New Fairfield, CT) led the men, capturing the top spot in three races as the men fell, 154-109.

Forsberg got things started in the fourth race of the day when he touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:15.13. He would also capture the crown in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard IM.

Freshman Nicholas Edwards (New Milford, CT) chipped in with a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, while classmate David Lawrence (Newtown, CT) did the same in the 500-yard free.

Peet touched the wall in 2:15.71 to lead the pack in the 200-yard free before another top performance in the 100-yard breaststroke, 1:24.22.

Juniors Albertine Rwabukumba (Redding, CT), Ourania Koutoumba (Danbury, CT) and rookies Samantha Capellaro (Danbury, CT), Hope Johnsky (Bristol, CT) and Molly Henry (Pound Ridge, NY) also won events for the WestConn women.

"Both the men and women were able to swim some off events and produce some great swims.  We are looking forward to finishing the fall semester at the Connecticut Cup on December 1st," said Colonial head coach Jill Cook following the meet.

The Connecticut Cup will be hosted by Wesleyan University.
