Colonials Blank Plymouth State, 3-0, Will Host Castleton In LEC Quarterfinals On Tuesday

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Behind goals form Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, CT), Chauncey Allers (Wilton, CT) and Mikey Sciortino (Shelton, CT), the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team defeated host Plymouth State University, 3-0 on a rain and light snow filled contest at Arold Field on Saturday.

With the victory, the Colonials improve to 14-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the Little East Conference.  They also secured the fourth seed in the upcoming LEC Tournament and will play host to Castleton State on Tuesday, October 30.  Game time against the Spartans is set for 6 pm at the Westside Athletic Complex.

Matthew Restrepo put WestConn up 1-0 when he chipped the ball over the Panthers' starting goalie Owen Caggiano.  The marker in the 34th minute, was his fifth goal of the season.

Chauncey Allers tallied his 22nd goal of the season after breaking free following a lead pass from Darion Richeme' (Danbury, CT) at the 62:31 mark.

Sciortino tacked on a insurance goal with 10:10 remeining in regulation.  It was his third goal of the season and came following a short pass form Ricardo Rodriguez (Danbury, CT).

"This is soccer in New England," said WestConn head coach Joe Mingachos when referring to the weather conditions.  "We were able to get out in front and keep Plymouth State from getting off too many shots between the pipe."

Sophomore Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, CT) recorded the clean sheet after making seven saves in the Nor'easter conditions.

Caggiano made five saves before yielding way to Linus Lindeberg for the fianl 27 minutes.  Lindeberg was unchallenged down the stretch.

The Panthers, which close out the season at 5-7-3 overall and 1-5-2 in the LEC, out shot the Colonials, 16-11 on Saturday.

"Now we have to get ready to defend our LEC title," added Mingachos.  "The second season begins on Tuesday."
