PURCHASE, NY – After becoming the school's all-time leader in career points scored on Saturday, senior forward Chauncey Allers (Wilton, CT) red-hot streak continued as he tallied a pair of scoring strikes to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory at non-conference foe SUNY-Purchase on Monday night. With the win, the Colonials improved to 12-3-3 overall while the Panthers dropped to 5-8-2.
Allers sparked the visitors with his conference-leading 19th goal of the season when he fired a shot just underneath the crossbar less than seven minutes into the contest.
The teams would then exchange penalty kick goals midway through the first half. Purchase knotted the count at 1-1 before the Colonials regained a 2-1 advantage when sophomore Mikey Sciortino (Shelton, CT) fired home a shot.
Allers would then net his second goal of the game when he booted a low shot just inside the post to make it 3-1. Sciortino responded with his second in the 73rd minute off a nifty cross into the box from rookie forward Naseem Thompson (Torrington, CT), setting the final score at 4-1.
WestConn outshot Purchase by a whopping 27-11 margin while also finishing ahead in corner kicks, 5-2.
"We're looking forward to moving in a strong and positive direction as the regular season comes to a close," stated Colonial head coach Joe Mingachos following the win.
WestConn returns to action for its regular season home finale when they meet non-league opponent Elms on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
