Men's Basketball Breezes Past Plymouth State, 94-70

DANBURY, CT – Senior forward Aaron Samuel (Stratford, CT) tallied a game-high 20 points, while junior forward Fenton Bradley Jr. (Mansfield, CT) chipped in with 19 and six rebounds to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball squad to a 94-70 victory over visiting Little East Conference opponent Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena. With the win, the Colonials improved to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in league play, while the Panthers dropped to 8-7 and 4-4.

Senior guard Geary McLeod (New London, CT) and junior guard Ronald Jefferson (Brooklyn, CT) also pierced double figures in scoring for WestConn, finishing with 11 and 10, respectively. McLeod and junior forward Tracy Cleckley Jr. (Rosedale, NY) also dished out four assists apiece.

Rookie guard Dante Rivera (Methuen, MA) paced Plymouth with 18 points, while classmate Manny Alisandro (Roslindale, MA) and junior Jaylen LeRoy (Manchester, NH) each netted 13.

The Colonials dominated the interior en route to the victory. They outrebounded the visitors, 47-21, while also outscoring them in the paint, 54-20. The hosts finished ahead in second chance points, 16-4.

It was all WestConn wire-to-wire as Jefferson got the game started with a layup. He then concluded the opening 11-1 run with a three-pointer off a feed from Cleckley Jr.

The Panthers cut the deficit to 21-18 midway through the first when Alisandro hit a midrange jumper. However, the Colonials put together another spurt which included a pair of ferocious dunks from Bradley Jr. WestConn would lead 44-39 at the break.

The hosts broke the game wide-open with a 16-1 barrage to begin the second stanza. The lead ballooned to 82-52 when Cleckley Jr. scurried down the lane for an easy bucket.

The Colonials return to action against visiting conference nemesis Keene State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
