BOSTON, MA - After dropping a heartbreaking one-run decision at home to John Jay yesterday, the Western Connecticut State University baseball squad dropped both games of a doubleheader at Little East Conference opponent UMass-Boston on Friday. The Colonials dropped the opener, 19-2, before falling in Game Two, 23-3.
It was a rough afternoon for the visitors. However, junior catcher Erik Merrill (Poughkeepsie, NY) managed to go 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the opener. Merrill drilled a single through the right side for WestConn's first run in the top of the first before coming around to score on a bases loaded walk in the fifth.
With the losses, WestConn dropped to 5-20 overall and 2-9 in league play, while the Beacons improved to 19-10 and 8-3.
The Colonials return to action when they host LEC archrival Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
