WestConn Athletics Launches New Branding Campaign

DANBURY, CT - The Western Connecticut State University Athletics Department is excited to release the launch of its new branding campaign, announced Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports Lori R. Mazza.

"We are very excited about the launch of our visual brand.  In athletics, we do feel we are the front porch of the University and so working collaboratively with the University and the EFK Group, this process allowed various groups to have input on this brand," stated Mazza.

The Colonials 18 intercollegiate teams, including four new programs beginning this fall, will have a completely new look, as WestConn Athletics unveils a new brand in its student-athletes' uniforms and practice gear as well as on fan wear and gear and throughout its six indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.

"This is an exciting time for our department, with the addition of men's golf, men's swimming and men's and women's cross country, and we felt this was the perfect time to unite our look, our teams and department under one identifying brand, added Mazza.  "We look forward to our student athletes feeling the unity within the department and to be proud of being a part of WestConn Athletics."

The entire University, which will launch its new branding campus-wide soon, went through the complete re-design process with The EFK Group out of Trenton, NJ last year.  After several campus-wide committee meetings, an exciting change to the school's and athletic department's marks were approved. 

Along with the new marks, the Athletic Department altered its color scheme and typography to provide a more consistent and distinctive presence.  The color palette now includes primary colors Deep Blue (PMS 295C), Starburst Orange (PMS 1655C) and White.  Cool Grey (PMS 1C) has been selected as a secondary color.  The typefaces include Earth A.D. After Disaster and the Montserrat "family" of fonts.  Most importantly, WESTCONN and COLONIALS is strictly a customized wordmark and cannot be typed out.

WestConn Athletics is also on the verge of launching its newly designed website.  PrestoSports is in the stretch run with the completely updated design.  It will incorporate all the new marks, colors and fonts and will also go live with a new URL,  Mazza expects an early August re-launch of the Colonials' official website.

Attached is a copy of the EFK developed WestConn Athletics Brand Guideline.  As soon as the new website goes live, there will be a page dedicated to usable department artwork.
